Ukraine: Disciple-Making Against the Odds

In war-torn Ukraine, disciple-making is taking root among Gypsy communities through Alex, a Gypsy called by God. By 18, he had planted five churches, including the one he still leads. Over time, Alex realised that crowds alone don’t make disciples—disciples must be trained to multiply.

Meeting Gabi, Praxeis’ leader for Eastern Europe, and learning about Disciple Making Movements (DMM) transformed his approach. Today, 60 leaders have been trained in DMM, stepping into their calling to disciple Gypsies in Ukraine and beyond. Alex envisions a DMM Centre in Ukraine for Eastern Europe, bringing together leaders from Romania, Hungary, Ukraine, and neighbouring countries to be trained and sent out as disciple-makers. His network already includes 21 churches, and he trusts God to multiply disciples who will transform communities.

This story illustrates the power of vision, obedience, and multiplication—how one life, transformed by God, can ignite entire networks of new disciples even in the most challenging contexts.
