‘Priesthood of all believers’ in the midst of civil war

Myanmar is amongst an economic collapse with hundreds of thousands of people displaced due to the military coup since February last year. Civil war now rages with civilian militia groups forming to fight against the military junta.

Despite this, we praise God for the 20 Discovery Bible Study groups running and 7 new groups starting across various regions of Myanmar through our leader, Aung and his teams over the last few months during these times of unrest. There are continual reports of new believers and new baptisms happening every month.

It is exciting to hear how everyone in these groups are learning to lead and share. This is a significant cultural shift for many who traditionally would not usually feel empowered to lead. The idea that ‘everyone gets to play’ (or the ‘priesthood of all believers’) is an essential element for the multiplication of disciples and groups.

‘But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.’ (1 Peter 2:9)
