In a village in South Asia, there was a woman known in the community for practicing spiritual rituals and casting out spirits. Many people feared her because of this. One day, a person in the village died unexpectedly, and the villagers became angry. They accused the woman, saying she had caused the death through evil power. The situation became very serious, and some people even wanted to harm her.
At the same time, a local follower of Jesus was also misunderstood by the community and treated with suspicion.
This follower of Jesus went to meet both the woman and the grieving family. He listened to them and prayed for them. He gently shared about Jesus—that He is full of mercy, that He does not harm people, and that He forgives sin.
The people were surprised. They had never heard about God in this way before.
After this, something began to change. From the woman’s household, several people started joining in prayer. Others from the village also became interested and began to gather together.
Now, a small group meets regularly in that same home. People are learning about Jesus together, in a place that was once filled with fear, but is now becoming a place of peace.
This story reminds us that a ‘household of peace’ is not always where we expect. Sometimes it is where there is influence, spiritual hunger, and strong relationships in the community—even if the backgrounds of the people in the place have been difficult or surprising. When they encounter Jesus, their openness can lead many others to also hear and respond. In Disciple Making Movements, God often uses these unexpected places and people to open whole communities to the gospel.
