IGNITE: Semester 2, 2026 | Disciple-Making Training Cohort

Vision

‘Ignite’ is a practical training cohort for people who want to be equipped as disciple-makers and grow in the core DNA and practices of Disciple Making Movements (DMM).

Who Is This For?

This training is designed for:

• Emerging leaders with a heart to make disciples who make disciples
• Part/full time workers or students (who can take Thursdays off between August-October or during Semester 2)

Participants will learn and apply simple, biblical practices that help them:

• Be a disciple and become a disciple-maker
• Develop a harvest-focused prayer life
• Engage in spiritual conversations: shifting from traditional evangelism methods to building discipling relationships. 
• Find and invest in ‘people of peace’ (inside leaders within a community)
• Start Discovery Bible Study (DBS) groups
• Create a community of disciple-makers that form ‘ekklasia’ (church)
• Grow as leaders who multiply disciple-makers

We are seeking to form a small group that will provide: 

• Mutual encouragement
• Shared learning
• Accountability
• Coaching support
• And a community of practice

Training Outcomes

By the end of the training, participants will:

1. Understand the biblical foundations and key principles of disciple making movement (DMM).
2. Form a personal plan to become a disciple of Jesus and moving to become a disciple maker.
3. Establish regular rhythms of prayer focused on the harvest.
4. Grow in confidence to initiate spiritual conversations. 
5. Identify and build discipling relationships with ‘people of peace’ (inside leaders).
6. Facilitate and start to coach others in facilitating Discovery Bible Studies.
7. Disciple others toward multiplication.

Training Modules:

Prayer and Scripture Engagement

Participants will engage deeply in prayer and with Scripture throughout each Module using:

• Four Column Bible Studies
• Discovery Bible Study (DBS)

Additional resources may include:

• Articles and short readings
• Video training sessions
• Reflection questions

1. Being a disciple

Forming a personal plan to become a disciple of Jesus and moving to become a disciple maker

Topics include:

• Encountering the Word of God
• Obedience leading to transformation

2. Becoming a disciple-maker who prays

Developing a vibrant prayer life (and team) focused on the harvest.

Topics include:

• Mind-mapping: Praying for the lost
• Prayer walking: Engaging new communities
• Building a prayer team

3. Becoming a disciple-maker who shares

Growing in confidence to start spiritual conversations and connect meaningfully with people. To shift from more traditional methods of evangelism and engage in discipling relationships with those who are spiritually hungry and open to learning how to share with others. 

Topics include:

• Finding legitimate ways to connect with communities (e.g. through Access Ministries and other relational opportunities)
• Building genuine love and curiosity for people 
• Spiritual conversations: Moving from Casual → Meaningful → Spiritual → Discovery conversations
• Praying for and recognising ‘people of peace’ (people who are open, hungry and share).

4. Discipling Communities – Discovery Bible Study

Creating spaces where people can encounter Scripture, hear from God and obey.

Topics include:

• Starting Discovery Bible Study (DBS) groups
• Facilitating rather than teaching
• Encouraging obedience-based discipleship

5. Discipling Communities – Creating a community of disciple-makers that form ‘Ekklasia’

Modelling communities of disciples who are multiplying. This is the primary ‘church’ community of disciples who are gathering together on mission.

Topics include:

• Forming all the elements of New Testament church from DBS.
• Modelling a culture we want to multiply.

6. Leadership that Multiplies

Equipping new disciples to make disciples from the beginning.

Topics include:

• Reproducible practices and community
• Empowerment of others
• Leadership development

Coaching and Community

Participants will:

• Share stories and testimonies
• Celebrate wins
• Troubleshoot challenges
• Pray for one another
• Set next steps

Schedule

Duration: Starting on Thursday 6th August – October 2026 (3 months)

Rhythm: A fortnightly cycle alternating between training and implementation.

Week A – Training Session

• Biblical input
• Practical equipping
• Discussion and prayer
• Action commitments

Week B – Implementation and Coaching

• Put learning into practice
• Check in and receive encouragement and support by a coach

This rhythm allows participants to immediately apply what they are learning.

Meeting Times

• Thursdays
• 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Location: LaTrobe University Bundoora

(The final schedule will be determined based on participant availability.)

Participants are expected to commit to:

• Attending training sessions
• Completing readings and reflection activities
• Practicing disciple-making during implementation weeks
• Participating actively in coaching and prayer
• Support other cohort members

Summary
