From Combat to Christ

After serving in combat in the Middle East, “Zane” returned to Australia carrying the invisible wounds of war. Like many veterans, he battled PTSD and the ongoing challenges that come with it. But God had other plans.

It began simply enough: an early morning Discovery Bible Study at Townsville Maccas. There, Zane’s former commanding officer, “Max,” invited him to explore the Bible together. Max had recently come to faith himself and was being discipled through one of Praxeis’ harvest-focused groups. As they read Scripture together, Jesus began to transform Zane’s life.

Not long after, Zane made the decision to be baptised in the ocean. His wife, “Sarah,” came to watch with their three children. She wasn’t convinced that this new faith would lead to any lasting change. But at the baptism, Sarah reconnected with Mel, one of our Praxeis workers. The two realised they had known each other years earlier through touch football in high school. That unexpected reunion opened the door to spiritual conversations.

Over the following months, Sarah began exploring the Bible for herself. As she encountered Jesus, her own life was transformed, and she too was baptised the following year. Today, this family is walking with Jesus together.

Zane continues to meet regularly with Max for discipleship. Steve and Mel also connect with Zane and Sarah for Discovery Bible Studies focused on marriage, family and following Jesus. The transformation has been profound.

What began with one invitation at Maccas has become a household of peace. Zane and Sarah now read Scripture and pray with their three children, all of whom are asking to be baptised. To help the kids understand baptism, Mel created a simple Discovery Bible Study to illustrate dying to the old life and rising to new life in Christ.

From trauma to transformation, Jesus is bringing healing, hope and multiplication not only to this Australian family, but to a growing network of veterans discovering Him through Scripture. What began as one early morning Discovery Bible Study has now multiplied to the fourth generation, with ex-soldiers helping other ex-soldiers encounter Jesus and make disciples.
